In a statement released on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the party’s acceptance of a recent Rivers State High Court ruling (Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024), which nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024.
The judgment, delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, recognizes the Ewor-led executive as the legitimate body to oversee the PDP in Rivers State, in accordance with the party’s constitution as amended in 2017.
The statement reads:
“The NWC commends the court’s decision, which underscores the PDP’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the rule of law and party guidelines during congresses and other activities.
“We call on all leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters of the PDP in Rivers State and across the nation to work with the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to ensure unity, stability, growth, and continued success of the party.
“The NWC further charges the Ewor-led executive to strengthen unity within the party in Rivers State, ensuring that the people continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy as delivered by our performing governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in line with the PDP manifesto and policy thrust.”
Ewor’s emergence as the state PDP chairman followed the court’s nullification of the tenure of Aaron Chukwuemeka and his executive committee.
Ewor, a loyal ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, dismissed any claims suggesting that former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, still wields leadership influence in the Rivers PDP.
“Let it be clear: Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the leader of the PDP in Rivers State. Any claims otherwise should be disregarded,” Ewor asserted.
