A stoppage-time header from José María Giménez sealed the win, giving Atlético consecutive Champions League triumphs. The result moves them up to 12th in the 36-team group stage, just one point away from the top eight spots that secure a place in the round of 16.

Speaking after the match, Simeone praised Inter’s strength and explained the tactical approach behind Atlético’s success.

“There’s no doubt—Inter are the strongest team in the Champions League right now,” he said. “That’s why our first half was focused on disrupting their rhythm. We knew the second half would give us space to show our full attacking qualities, with elite players like Griezmann, Sorloth and Nico González, who came on brilliantly and helped us find the late goal.

“It was beautiful, but the plan didn’t change regardless of the result. I don’t live in a comfort zone; that’s just not me. You need faith, passion, and quality. My players buy into the vision, and that’s everything for a coach. Some strikers wanted to start today, but when they came on, they proved their value.”

Simeone previously identified Arsenal as the toughest opposition his team has faced this season, following Atlético’s 4–0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium last month.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, he said: “They’re the best team we’ve played this season. They compete fiercely, they run endlessly, and they have quality all over the field. Now we move on—we’ll focus on what worked and what needs improvement.”
