Singer Liya Reveals Emotional Struggles Behind Leaving Davido’s Record Label

Liya, who became the first female artist to sign with DMW in October 2020, said she exited the label because she felt the need to pursue greater personal and professional growth. She had earlier confirmed her departure in 2023 during an Instagram question-and-answer session, stating that while she had moved on, she still remained loyal to her roots.

Speaking on a recent episode of Wahala with Josy Anne, the singer revealed that leaving the label was a difficult and emotional decision. She explained that she felt unfulfilled and exhausted, adding that the experience affected her both mentally and physically, even though many people believed she had everything figured out.

Liya also spoke about the criticism she faced during that period, noting that she was often misjudged and labeled as lazy. According to her, the pressure and public perception took a toll on her confidence, leading her to step back from managing her social media directly for a period of time, with her manager handling her posts.

Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude for her manager’s patience and support, saying he understood her struggles and never forced her to act beyond her comfort level.
