During the bill-signing ceremony at the Government House, Governor Aliyu emphasized that the initiative was conceived to complement the ongoing efforts of the administration led by President Bola Tinubu in enhancing security across the nation. He clarified that the establishment of the Sokoto Community Guard Corps was not intended to rival or replace the existing police force.
Governor Aliyu underscored the significance of this development, particularly in light of the security concerns affecting Sokoto State, notably the menace of banditry, which has disrupted the region’s historically peaceful atmosphere. He pledged the commitment of his administration to take all necessary measures to restore and maintain peace and security in the state.
“The signing into law of this Sokoto Community Guard Corps is a very important milestone in the lives of this administration,” Governor Aliyu declared. He highlighted the corps’ primary objective as being a supplementary force to conventional security outfits, focusing on safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, particularly in rural areas.
The governor made it clear that the Sokoto Community Guard Corps should not be perceived as a replacement for the Sokoto police or as a force created by the state government. Instead, it was positioned as a collaborative effort to enhance security at the grassroots level.
Addressing security agencies, Governor Aliyu urged cooperation and support for the newly established community guard corps. He emphasized that their role was to assist and provide essential support and information from localities to the conventional security forces. He reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the protection of lives and property in Sokoto State.
In conclusion, Governor Aliyu called for a united front in addressing the security challenges, with the Sokoto Community Guard Corps playing a complementary role alongside existing security agencies in achieving a safer and more secure state.
