Soludo Fires Back At APGA Defectors, Questions Their Political Loyalty Ahead Of 2027

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has criticised some Igbo politicians who, according to him, used the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to build their political relevance before abandoning the party for other platforms.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Soludo made the remarks on Saturday at the Ekwusigo Local Government Headquarters in Ozubulu, shortly after commissioning projects executed by the outgoing council chairman, Hon. Chinezie Obi.

The governor expressed concern over what he described as the movement of some politicians from one political party to another after benefiting from APGA’s platform. He suggested that some of those who once relied on the party for political prominence now act as though APGA is no longer relevant.

Soludo also raised concerns about what he described as the tendency among some Igbo people to concentrate their political support around one platform and subsequently complain of marginalisation at the federal level.

He argued that the South-East should seek stronger engagement with the Federal Government and maintain political connections with the centre to advance its interests.

The governor further stated that APGA’s position ahead of the 2027 general election is to work with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level. Soludo said the party intends to support President Bola Tinubu and seek victories for APGA candidates in national and state legislative elections in Anambra.

Soludo’s position is consistent with his previously stated support for cooperation between progressive political parties. In May 2025, he said APGA had adopted Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election, citing what he described as ideological alignment between APGA and the APC-led Federal Government.

The governor also said APGA would seek to strengthen its presence in the state’s legislative contests while continuing to build on its political structure in Anambra.

His latest comments come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political parties across the country reassessing alliances and platforms ahead of the polls.
