Something Was Wrong’ — Wike Reveals Why He Felt Unsafe At Abuja Eatery

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has recounted an uncomfortable experience at a restaurant in Abuja, saying he felt unsafe after being surrounded by a large crowd and approached by miscreants seeking money.

Wike shared the incident during his monthly media briefing while responding to questions about how residents of the Federal Capital Territory perceive his administration and ongoing infrastructure projects.

The former Rivers State governor said he had visited an undisclosed restaurant without his security aides, hoping to have a quiet meal, but the outing quickly became overwhelming.

According to him, dozens of people gathered to greet him shortly after he arrived, making him uneasy and forcing him to abandon the visit.

“There was a day when I went to one of the restaurants to eat, and I didn’t go with security. Upon my arrival, I encountered over 50 people coming to greet me, and I didn’t know what to do.

“Of course, I didn’t feel safe; you can’t interpret that as people liking you.

“I told the restaurant workers that I would come back, but at that point, I was no longer comfortable. As soon as I stepped outside, I saw some miscreants waiting for me to give them money,” Wike said.

The minister added that the presence of individuals waiting outside the restaurant to solicit money further heightened his discomfort, prompting him to leave the area.
