In a statement, Chiume’s family announced her death and requested privacy during this time of mourning. The statement read, “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed away at Garden City Hospital today, August 6, 2024. The family will provide more details later and asks for privacy during this difficult period.”

Following the news, Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw paid tribute to Chiume on Instagram, writing, “NO! Rest in peace Mum Connie. You were deeply loved & appreciated. My condolences to South Africa; they have lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well, my friend!”
