Southern Regions Reaping Rewards From North East Development Commission, Says Onuigbo....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sam Onuigbo, the representative of the South East on the Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), emphasized that individuals from the southern region are also benefiting from the Commission’s initiatives. Speaking to reporters recently, Onuigbo highlighted that beyond the indigenous populace of the North East, Igbo communities residing and engaging in commerce in various parts of the region are experiencing the positive outcomes of the NEDC’s establishment.

The NEDC, mandated by the Federal Government, focuses on the rehabilitation, resettlement, and reconstruction of areas ravaged by insurgency, along with addressing issues like the Lake Chad crisis, supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), combating illiteracy, and fostering regional transformation.

Onuigbo underscored the extensive destruction witnessed during the peak of insurgency in the North East, affecting numerous structures and commercial enterprises, including those owned by Igbo individuals. However, he expressed satisfaction with the significant decrease in insecurity in the region, attributing it to various initiatives introduced by the Federal Government, bolstered by international cooperation.

He further noted that the improved security situation benefits not only the indigenous inhabitants but also the southern residents and entrepreneurs operating in the North East. According to Onuigbo, the solidarity is evident in the shared impact of destruction, where any harm inflicted upon the North East resonates with the South East.

Asserting a commitment to contributing to the development of the North East, Onuigbo emphasized the presence of southern individuals actively participating in various capacities in the region. He highlighted the resilience of the southern community in the face of adversity and reiterated their dedication to fostering growth and stability in partnership with their host communities in the North East.
