Before departing Nigeria, he allegedly communicated to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he was withdrawing his interest in serving as a minister in the administration.

Following his decision to decline the ministerial role, El-Rufai left the country.

El-Rufai’s nomination was among the three withheld when the Senate sanctioned the list of 48 nominees for ministerial positions. The Senate, however, granted approval to 45 candidates, including individuals like Nyesom Wike, Bello Matawalle, Gboyega Oyetola, and Abubakar Bagudu.

A source informed Daily Trust that El-Rufai initially embarked on a journey to Europe and would later proceed to Egypt.

Nonetheless, a recent Twitter post by former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, hints at the possibility that El-Rufai might currently be in Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon.

Sharing a photograph of El-Rufai on the micro-blogging platform, Ahmad accompanied it with the caption “Chilling in Beirut.”
