SSANU Announces Timeline For Ending Strike Over Withdrawn SalariesThe Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has declared that its ongoing strike will continue until members receive payment for four months of withheld salaries. SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim made this announcement during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The strike, which was jointly initiated by SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), began on Sunday night in response to the government’s failure to meet its financial obligations. Ibrahim accused the Ministry of Finance of withholding salaries and claimed that the unions have been “shortchanged.”

While meetings with relevant ministers are planned, Ibrahim emphasized that the priority remains the immediate payment of all outstanding salaries. He noted that attempts to secure a meeting with the Minister of Finance have not been successful.

The indefinite strike has disrupted non-academic activities across public universities in the country, with union leaders asserting that the government’s actions leave them with no choice but to persist in the industrial action until they receive confirmation of payment.

Ibrahim stated, “This strike did not happen suddenly. We are responding to the demands of our members. Adequate notification has been given to the government; no one can claim ignorance of this situation.”

He confirmed that they were contacted recently by former Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, on behalf of the new minister, and a meeting is scheduled for later this week to address the issue.

Ibrahim stressed, “It’s not about having meetings; it’s about payment. All procedures have been followed. The government can easily direct the payment. I assure you that once we receive confirmation of payment, we will consult with our members and may suspend the strike within 24 hours.”

When asked if the strike would only end upon receiving payment alerts, he affirmed, “Exactly. Unless we get those alerts, the strike continues.
