In Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s wife, Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, urged residents to take advantage of the free testing sponsored by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the World Health Organization. She emphasized the urgent need to address these diseases, highlighting that 17% of Nigerians aged 30 to 70 face a high risk of mortality from diabetes and hypertension.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji announced a goal of screening 200,000 residents for these conditions during the campaign. The state has established 161 screening centers for this purpose. Represented by Deputy Governor Mrs. Monisade Afuye, Oyebanji noted that hypertension and diabetes contribute to 70% of deaths among people aged 30 to 70 in Nigeria.

He pointed out the alarming lack of awareness regarding these health issues, making them a silent threat to public health. The campaign aims to raise awareness and facilitate free screenings for adults aged 18 and older while linking newly diagnosed individuals to local healthcare facilities for further care. Oyebanji also stressed that the increasing rates of non-communicable diseases are likely linked to lifestyle changes and emphasized the importance of counseling during the screening process.
