Wike delivered the advice during a visit to the monarch’s palace as part of his ongoing “thank you” tour of local government areas, which began with Okrika Local Government Area.

Speaking to the monarch, the minister emphasized that political campaigns would soon start in the state and stressed the importance of maintaining peace in the kingdom. He noted that decisions on key political issues had already been made, adding that his visit was also motivated by a longstanding personal relationship with the traditional ruler.

Wike urged the Amanyanabo to remain nonpartisan despite rising political tensions, saying:

“We will soon start politics. I didn’t say you should be involved, don’t be involved. Allow us to play our politics; stay as a traditional ruler. That does not mean you don’t have people you support in your heart, but allow us to play our game.”

He added that any conflicts arising from political activities would be handled by those directly involved, though the monarch could always intervene to restore peace if necessary.

“If there’s any problem, you call us, we will settle, but I want to tell you it will not be business as usual again,” he said.

Addressing the people of Okrika, Wike said his visit was also to show appreciation for their consistent support over the years.

“We came to thank our people who have supported us all this while. The people of Okrika and the Ijaw nation have supported us very well, and I felt it was important to show our gratitude,” he said, pledging continued appreciation.

Expressing concern over the current political climate in Rivers State, Wike reiterated his determination to resist any attempts to sideline him politically.

“All of us have made decisions on what to do. Those of them who are your children will explain the decisions to you, just for your ears—not for you to participate. You are my friend,” he added.
