I Thought He Was Gone!” — Driver’s Son Reveals How Anthony Joshua Escaped Death
The 19-year-old son of Anthony Joshua’s driver, Ifeoluwa Adeniyi, has dismissed claims that his father drove recklessly before the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of the heavyweight boxer’s associates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The crash occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck. Two of Joshua’s close aides—Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach—were killed in the incident.
Adeniyi Kayode, the driver, was subsequently charged with manslaughter by the Ogun State Police Command and was remanded at the Sagamu Correctional Centre to complete his bail documentation.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Ifeoluwa insisted his father was not speeding, attributing the accident to brake failure. “Dad is not a fast driver; he was following the speed limit when the brakes failed. He said he was pressing the pedal, but nothing was happening,” he said.
He added that his father tried to swerve to avoid the stationary truck but could not prevent the collision. “He tried to avoid the truck parked by the side of the road but hit it. He’s been driving for Anthony for three years and is a good driver,” Ifeoluwa stated.
The driver’s son also revealed that Joshua initially sat in the front passenger seat but later moved to the back during the journey. “When the journey started in Lagos, Anthony was sitting in the front, but my dad asked him to sit behind because he was blocking his view,” he said.
Ifeoluwa explained that the trip was intended to visit Joshua’s family in Sagamu after picking him up from the airport, and the accident occurred just minutes before reaching their destination. “He was taking Anthony to see his family in Sagamu. They were only a few minutes away when it happened,” he said.
He further argued that the collision could have been avoided if the truck had not been parked illegally on the roadside. “It’s not his fault. If the truck wasn’t parked there illegally, this wouldn’t have happened,” he added.
Olalekan Abiodun, counsel to the driver, described the incident as unfortunate and confirmed that Adeniyi Kayode pleaded not guilty. “My client has pleaded not guilty. What happened was an accident,” Abiodun said, adding that the brakes failed prior to the collision.
The lawyer also corroborated Ifeoluwa’s account regarding Joshua’s seat swap. “The journey started in Lagos, and initially Anthony sat in the front seat, but the driver asked him to move because his size blocked the wing mirror,” Abiodun explained.
He noted that the accident occurred just minutes before reaching Sagamu and emphasized that the illegally parked truck significantly contributed to the crash.
