Dele Faseemo, Group Head of Renewable Energy at Sterling Bank Plc, stated, “The Sterling One Foundation is committed to cleaning up beaches and adopting sustainable practices. Our goal is to empower local communities to continue maintaining clean beaches even after the Foundation’s involvement. Sterling Bank is urgently addressing the need to eliminate waste from communities, instilling a culture of recycling to safeguard the planet. This initiative aims to create jobs, maintain a clean environment, and instill a collective responsibility in the fight against plastic pollution.”
CEO of Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, expressed gratitude to the numerous partners who actively participated in the exercise. She highlighted climate action as a focal point for the foundation and noted that renewable energy is a key focus area for Sterling Bank’s business strategy.
Ibekwe emphasized the bank’s longstanding commitment to environmental priorities since 2007, stating, “This project has been ongoing, and it’s not stopping anytime soon. We must accelerate our efforts to transition to a circular economy, where plastics are used responsibly, recycled, and repurposed.”
To address this urgency, Sterling One Foundation collaborated with Green Space Depot and received support from the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) to organize a community clean-up. Ibekwe explained that the initiative aims to mobilize communities, empower individuals, and nurture a collective sense of responsibility in the battle against plastic pollution.
