Stop Politicising Insecurity” — Gov Radda Sends Strong Message To Residents

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has urged residents to refrain from politicising the state’s security challenges, stressing that insecurity should be addressed through collective responsibility rather than partisan interests.

The governor also called on citizens to intensify prayers for lasting peace while continuing to support security agencies in their efforts to restore safety across the state.

Radda made the appeal on Saturday during the 2026 Yaumul Shukur (Thanksgiving Day) celebration, an annual event commemorating the 1934 merger of the former Katsina and Daura Provinces.

According to the governor, insecurity remains a shared challenge that requires unity, cooperation and divine intervention, not political exploitation.

“This gathering is more than a ceremony; it is a longstanding tradition established by our forefathers. Every August 1, we observe Yaumul Shukur to thank Almighty Allah for His blessings and seek His continued protection over our state,” he said.

Radda described Katsina as a state blessed with distinguished sons and daughters who have made remarkable contributions to Nigeria and the international community.

He paid tribute to former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as renowned jurists, including Justices Muhammadu Bello, Mamman Nasir and Umaru Abdullahi. He also acknowledged generations of Islamic scholars whose legacies, he said, continue to inspire integrity, justice and service.

The governor emphasized that while political administrations may change, the responsibility of protecting Katsina remains a collective duty for all citizens.

Highlighting his administration’s security efforts, Radda said the state government had strengthened its security architecture by recruiting, training and equipping members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to work alongside conventional security agencies.

“We have recruited, trained and equipped the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to complement the efforts of the military and other security agencies. We will continue to deploy every lawful means available to safeguard lives and property,” he stated.

Radda also commended the military, the Nigeria Police Force and the Community Watch Corps for their recent joint operations, which he said resulted in the elimination of more than 40 suspected bandits, including a notorious kingpin.

He, however, cautioned politicians and other stakeholders against using the loss of innocent lives as a tool for political advantage.

“No one should exploit the deaths of innocent people for political gain. Human life is sacred, and the security of our people must always come first,” the governor said.
