The Federal Commissioner representing the South-South geopolitical zone in the National Population Commission (NPC), Itotenaan Henry Ogiri, has denied allegations that he invited former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, to Abuja for a press briefing on the state’s political crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nwaeke’s wife, Florence, had earlier claimed that Ogiri called her husband and requested his presence in Abuja. However, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Ogiri dismissed the accusation, stating that he has been in Rivers State since leaving Abuja on February 28, 2025.

Ogiri clarified that since exiting the Rivers State cabinet in 2023, he has only spoken to Nwaeke once.

His statement read in part:

“This morning, March 29, 2025, my attention was drawn to a viral social media video where the wife of the recently resigned Head of Service of Rivers State alleged that her husband is missing and might have been held hostage.

“She accused me of calling her husband from Abuja, asking him to come over for a discussion, and even offering to pay for his flight ticket. This is completely false. Who should be paying for whose ticket?

“More disturbing is her claim that I should ‘return’ her husband. This is nothing but a poorly rehearsed act. While Dr. George Nwaeke is a friend and professional colleague, we have only spoken once since I left the Rivers State cabinet in November 2023, either late last year or early this year.

“I arrived in Port Harcourt from Abuja on February 28, 2025—the same day the Supreme Court gave its ruling on Rivers State—and I have not left since. I have been working in our Port Harcourt office while also preparing for the burial of my foster father, which took place on March 22, 2025.

“I have not spoken to Dr. George Nwaeke since the Supreme Court judgment. If this allegation had come from him directly, I would have viewed it differently.

“Fortunately, telephone service providers can verify call logs and conversations, just as airlines can confirm my travel records, proving I have not left Rivers State in the past month.

“As this unfolding drama and web of lies continue, I urge my relatives, friends, supporters, and the general public to remain calm. The truth will soon be revealed.”
