This confirmation was conveyed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, during a briefing for State House correspondents following the Council Meeting.

Geidam reported that the Council members gave their approval to President Bola Tinubu’s proposal for Egbetokun’s confirmation, citing his outstanding track record and extensive experience in the field.

The decision to confirm Egbetokun as the IGP came after he had satisfactorily fulfilled his responsibilities during the preceding three months since his appointment on June 20.

Furthermore, Geidam noted that Egbetokun, who had been serving as acting IGP for the past four months, had demonstrated commendable achievements, highlighting his numerous contributions to police and security development programs, thus positioning him as highly qualified.

Notably, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Egbetokun as IGP on Monday, June 19, 2023, succeeding Usman Baba, who had been appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021. Egbetokun, who began his service in the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, will mark 35 years in service by September 2024.
