This information was shared in a statement by the Nigerian Army on its social media platform on Sunday night. Notably, troops apprehended a notorious arms courier found with a significant cache of ammunition, marking a crucial step in combating arms proliferation among criminal groups.

Acting on intelligence, the Nigerian Army personnel intercepted terrorists during an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the neutralization of several militants and the recovery of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition hidden in a bag. The suspect and the vehicle involved were taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to apprehend his accomplices.

In another operation in Kaduna State, troops conducted precision strikes in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. Additional engagements in Ankwa village, Kachia Local Government Area, led to the annihilation of two more terrorists and the recovery of a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the militants.

In Borno State, troops encountered fleeing terrorists at Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri Local Government Area, recovering two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), 51 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, hard drugs, and various supplies. The terrorists abandoned their firearms and ammunition after facing the troops’ superior firepower. Further operations in Gwoza Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists near Ashigashiya village. Additionally, troops responding to credible intelligence intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting supplies to terrorists in Gubio, seizing three vehicles loaded with food meant for terrorist camps, along with N2,400 in cash.

In another successful effort in Kukawa Local Government Area, troops, acting on intelligence, intercepted terrorists attempting to relocate abducted victims from Cijin village. The militants fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning 38 hostages, including six men, eight women, and 24 children, who were safely rescued.

In Yobe State, troops ambushed terrorists extorting civilians in Sasawa village in Damaturu Local Government Area, neutralizing one terrorist and recovering an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle.

The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their bravery and unwavering commitment to restoring peace. He also expressed gratitude to citizens for their continued provision of credible information, which has been vital to these successes. “The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate terrorism and protect the lives of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
