Suleiman Kum Takes Over From Dangut As New WAEC Nigeria Boss
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed 56-year-old Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.
Kum succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed his new role as WAEC Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment was officially announced by WAEC Nigeria on Sunday, confirming Kum’s emergence as the new head of the council’s Nigeria office.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Kum brings nearly three decades of experience within WAEC to his new position, having joined the council on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II.
Over the years, he has served in several senior positions across the organisation and gained experience in examination administration, test development, security printing and branch management.
WAEC Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive.
During his career, Kum reportedly played a key role in introducing Variable Data Printing and strengthening security features used in WAEC’s examination materials. He also contributed to the adoption of facial-recognition biometric devices to replace the council’s traditional attendance systems.
The new WAEC Nigeria head was also involved in the implementation of Achievement Tests through computer-based examination technology, reflecting his role in the council’s efforts to modernise its examination processes.
Kum has held several positions within WAEC, including roles at its offices in Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt and Ikeja. He has also worked in areas covering examination security, security printing, administration and regional coordination.
Academically, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and is currently pursuing a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration and Planning at the institution.
He is from Plateau State and has reportedly received several commendations and awards during his career.
WAEC said his professional record has been characterised by integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service.
His appointment comes as the council transitions to new leadership in Nigeria, with Kum expected to bring his extensive experience in examination administration and institutional management to the role.
