Sumaila Warns Gov. Yusuf Against Betraying Kano’s Trust In Favor Of KwankwasoSenator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has issued a stern warning to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging him not to prioritize former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s interests at the expense of the people of Kano.

Rumors have circulated within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) suggesting that Kwankwaso wields significant influence over Yusuf’s administration, with some alleging that he plays a role in dictating key policies.

In an interview with reporters in Abuja, Sumaila emphasized that if Governor Yusuf betrays the trust of the people, particularly the millions who supported him, they will never forgive him. He urged the governor to balance his relationship with Kwankwaso, emphasizing that it must be done in a way that benefits the people of Kano.

Sumaila warned that the greatest risk would be betraying the people who helped him ascend to the governorship. “If you wrong one person, you can seek forgiveness, and they might forgive you. But if you betray over 20 million people who supported you, it will be a different story,” he said, urging the governor to avoid such a path.

He further stressed that Governor Yusuf’s administration must not be solely about the rights of Kwankwaso or members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. “There are also the rights of NNPP supporters, APC members who did not vote for him, and members of other smaller parties who contributed to his success. All of these groups must have their rights respected,” Sumaila stated. He called on the governor to ensure that the interests of all Kano residents, irrespective of their political affiliation, are safeguarded.
