Super Falcons: Eguavoen Unveils 28-Player Squad For Comoros Showdown

Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s second-round qualifying fixtures against Comoros in the race for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the squad announced on Tuesday includes captain Rasheedat Ajibade, forwards Asisat Oshoala and Janet Akekoromowei, as well as goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Defender Ashleigh Plumptre has also returned to the squad after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations due to injury. Other notable players selected include Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Jennifer Echegini, Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu.

Eguavoen has also included several younger players, among them Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi.

The invited players are expected to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3, as preparations begin for the two-legged Olympic qualifying tie.

The first leg is scheduled for Friday, October 9, while the return fixture will take place on Tuesday, October 13. Both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the qualifying campaign as one of Africa’s three highest-ranked teams, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons will need to progress through four rounds of two-legged qualifying ties to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. If Nigeria overcome Comoros, they will advance to the third round, where they are scheduled to face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco.

The full 28-player squad comprises Chiamaka Nnadozie, Comfort Erhabor and Christiana Uzoma as goalkeepers; Michelle Alozie, Shukurat Oladipo, Farida Abdulwahab, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Edet, Ashleigh Plumptre and Tumininu Adeshina as defenders; Christy Ucheibe, Joy Igbokwe, Favour Nkwocha, Fatimoh Solaty, Suliat Abideen, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini as midfielders; and Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Flourish Sabastine, Shakirat Moshood, Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Blessing Nkor, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Janet Akekoromowei and Uchenna Kanu as forwards.
