Suspected Cultists Kill Soldiers And Four Others In Deadly AssaultGunmen believed to be cultists have reportedly killed a soldier and four other individuals in the North Bank area of Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State. The attack occurred on Friday night and is part of a recent surge in violent clashes between rival cult groups in the region, which have already resulted in multiple deaths and property damage.

Eyewitnesses revealed that two of the victims, both young men, were not affiliated with any cult group but were caught in the crossfire during the cultist attack. Nura Umar, the chairman of the local vigilante group, Operation Shara, confirmed that the killings took place on Thursday and Friday nights, with a soldier among those targeted.

Umar explained: “The cultists struck between 10 and 11 pm on Friday, killing a soldier and two young men. The incident occurred near the BIPC. The two young men were not cultists; they were simply victims of the cultists’ violence. A day earlier, on Thursday, another individual, suspected to be a cultist, was killed while sleeping in his home.”

Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed the reports of cult activity in the area. She stated: “Yes, there have been cult-related incidents in North Bank. However, I am only aware of one civilian death, a young man. Security operatives have been deployed to the area to address the situation.
