The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in collaboration with tactical units of the Oyo State Police Command. They were said to have played different roles in the June 3 abduction.

Those arrested include the alleged gang leader, Adewale Abolarinwa, also known as “Oloro,” along with Segun Balogun (“Alawaye”) and Dare Oyedele, popularly called “Solution.”

The victims were later rescued from Lako community along Ayegun-Olomi Road in Ibadan, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Driver Admits Role in Operation

One of the suspects, Balogun, a commercial driver at Iwo Road Motor Park, reportedly confessed that he used his driving skills to assist the gang during the operation. He said he had known the gang leader, Oloro, for over 10 years through the transport union before being recruited.

According to him, he was approached and told about the plan after revealing the location of the victim’s family home.

“He asked if Adelabu’s mother was still alive and where she lived. I showed him the house,” Balogun allegedly said.

He added that the gang leader initially suggested kidnapping either Adelabu’s mother or a child from the family due to financial hardship.

Balogun said he agreed to participate and was assigned to drive the operational vehicle used for the abduction on June 3. He further explained that he was instructed to follow and block the victims’ car, after which the abductors forced the woman and children into their vehicle.

Alleged Surveillance and Planning

Another suspect, Dare Oyedele, known as “Solution,” an automobile electrician in Ibadan, was said to have carried out surveillance for the gang.

Police sources said he monitored the victims’ residence, the children’s school, and their movement routes for several weeks before the operation.

Investigators also alleged that intercepted communications showed he provided detailed intelligence about the family’s routines and described the children’s school as well-facilitated.

Solution, who hails from Ishara Remo in Ogun State, admitted knowing the gang leader for about a year. He claimed he was initially unaware of the full extent of the operation.

He said he was later invited to participate in movements involving the gang and was present during the kidnapping operation, during which masks and weapons were used.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Police sources said Balogun first came under suspicion due to his known association with the gang leader. He was reportedly caught attempting to delete information from his phone when interrogated.

A search of his phone allegedly revealed messages linked to arms procurement discussions involving the gang.

Further investigation led to the arrest of other suspects after Oloro was captured. During the rescue operation, police reportedly neutralised two members of the gang while others were arrested.

Authorities also recovered three pump-action guns from the suspects, including one allegedly found at Solution’s residence.

The alleged gang leader, Oloro, was also said to have been found with charms and other items during his arrest.

Police sources added that Oloro had previously been arrested in 2022 for alleged kidnapping and car theft, during which he reportedly confessed and was later remanded. However, it remains unclear how he regained freedom before allegedly returning to crime.
