The Abuja High Court’s ruling on Monday disqualified Sylva from participating in the November governorship election.
Justice Donatus Okorowo, who issued the order, stated that permitting Sylva to run in the November 11 gubernatorial elections would be in violation of the country’s constitution, which prohibits a person from being elected as a governor more than twice.
The judge clarified that Sylva, having been inaugurated twice and serving a five-year term as the governor of Bayelsa, would contravene the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to run for office again.
