The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday, voiced deep concern over the tanker explosion that rocked the Zaria-Kano highway on Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria when a Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) tanker en route to Kano suffered a tyre blowout and rammed into the rear of an empty fuel tanker. The impact triggered a massive explosion, initially sparking fears of multiple deaths.
However, Zaria Local Government Chairman, Engineer Jamil Muhammad, clarified that no lives were lost. He confirmed that four people sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Muhammad also debunked earlier claims that two commercial Golf vehicles were involved, stressing that no such vehicles were part of the crash. This was further confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command, Nasir Falgore, Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria, and Aminu Kiyawa, Area Commander of the Federal Fire Service.
Working closely with the council chairman, FRSC officials managed traffic on the busy route, while fire service personnel battled the flames to prevent further destruction.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Tajudeen described the explosion as “unfortunate” and underscored the urgent need for stricter adherence to road safety measures.
“This accident is a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance on our roads,” he said, noting that such incidents are avoidable when proper safety standards are maintained. He urged motorists to exercise greater caution and obey traffic rules to prevent needless tragedies.
