The presidency has suggested that the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) may not fully grasp the details of the tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the presidency, the reforms are designed to relieve 90% of NLC workers from tax burdens, yet the union’s leadership is opposing the bills.
This statement was made by the Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on his X account on Wednesday.
The response came after the NLC called for the immediate withdrawal of the tax reform bills submitted to the National Assembly, citing the need for broader stakeholder consultations before passage.
In its New Year message to Nigerians on Tuesday, the NLC also urged all levels of government to prioritize citizens’ welfare in 2025.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue in shaping tax reforms.
In response, Olusegun remarked: “It’s surprising that while over 90% of workers under the NLC will benefit from reduced tax burdens once the tax reform bills are implemented, their leaders are calling for the bills to be withdrawn.”
