During a New Year visit from Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) at his Ikoyi residence, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude for their continued support and collaboration, while also highlighting key areas that require joint efforts for the nation’s advancement.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the governors’ pivotal role, stating, “You are the most important link to Nigeria’s prosperity and development. The Federal Government controls only 30 to 35 percent of the allocated revenue, with the rest going to you. The agricultural value chain depends on you, as you own the land and the responsibility lies in your hands.”
The President called for enhanced collaboration between the federal and state governments to tackle urgent challenges such as local government autonomy, agricultural productivity, and currency stability. He reiterated his commitment to advancing local government development and autonomy, affirming its importance for grassroots progress, and addressing rumors of any rift with the governors.
