Tell Atiku To Step Down – Kwankwaso Reveals Message To Fulani Delegation Ahead Of 2027 Poll
The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has disclosed that he urged a delegation of Fulani people who visited him to persuade former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
The former Kano State governor explained that the delegation, comprising Fulani people from different parts of the country, had visited his residence for a courtesy meeting. He said he used the opportunity to encourage them to speak with Atiku about stepping down from the presidential contest.
Kwankwaso said he asked the visitors to make time before returning to their respective communities to meet with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate and persuade him to withdraw from the race.
Speaking about his relationship with Atiku, Kwankwaso said they had worked closely together in the past and that he knew the former vice president reasonably well.
“Atiku is somebody that I know fairly well, and I have done so much together with him in the past, more than anybody who is around him today,” Kwankwaso said.
Meanwhile, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has disclosed that Kwankwaso was initially sceptical about joining the ADC.
Lawal made the revelation during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he said he had convinced both NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and Kwankwaso to join the ADC.
His comments add another dimension to the political realignments and discussions among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
