Tension As Police Summon Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Threat To Accord Party Members

Published

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over a viral statement in which he allegedly threatened to “kill” members of the Accord Party ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The police invitation followed widespread reactions on social media after the senator was reportedly heard urging supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Fadahunsi was directed to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12.

According to The Cable, the invitation was issued to enable the senator to explain the circumstances surrounding the remarks he allegedly made during an APC campaign programme in Ilesa on Tuesday.

The police letter stated that the invitation was based on information received by the Nigeria Police concerning statements allegedly made by Fadahunsi during the event.

The letter read in part:

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms.”

Fadahunsi Explains ‘Kill Accord’ Comment

Fadahunsi has, however, offered an explanation for the controversial remark, insisting that he was referring to defeating the Accord Party at the polls, rather than advocating violence against its members.

His media office issued a statement in Osogbo on Tuesday titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC.”

According to the statement, the senator’s comments were intended as a political expression aimed at mobilising APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party through democratic means.

It described the remark as:

“A call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.”

The statement further clarified:

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical.”

Fadahunsi’s media office maintained that the senator did not call for physical attacks against members or supporters of the Accord Party, stressing that his comments were focused on defeating the party through votes.
