Tension Erupts As Police Refute Claims Of Stripping Atiku, Wike Of Security Aides
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a widely circulated list claiming that officers assigned to several Very Important Personalities (VIPs) have been withdrawn following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on reducing police escorts.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The viral document, shared across social media, alleged that security details attached to prominent individuals—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and former First Lady Aisha Buhari—had been recalled.
However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified in a statement on Friday that the document, purportedly issued by the 50 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, is entirely fake.
Hundeyin further explained that the document, said to be signed by a certain CSP Suleiman Abdullahi as the squadron’s Admin Officer, should be ignored, stressing that no such officer exists within the 50 PMF Squadron and that the rank cited does not align with the administrative structure of PMF units.
He emphasized that the forged memo was a deliberate attempt to sow confusion and mislead the public.
Hundeyin confirmed that while the Police have begun implementing President Tinubu’s directive on withdrawing officers from VIP protection, the exercise is being conducted gradually, carefully, and professionally to prevent any security gaps that criminals could exploit.
His statement read in part:
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that a document circulating on social media—claiming to instruct all officers attached to certain individuals to report back to base—is fake and should be disregarded. The officer whose name appears on the document does not exist in the 50 PMF Squadron, and the rank listed is inconsistent with the structure of PMF administrative postings.
“This fabrication appears designed to mislead the public and cause unnecessary confusion.
“To be clear, the implementation of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal of VIP police escorts has commenced, but it is being executed in a structured and phased manner to avoid creating any security vacuum.”
Hundeyin urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified information from official police channels and avoid spreading false documents that may undermine public trust.
He reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and remaining transparent and accountable in all operations.
