According to Channels Television, the IGP is scheduled to meet privately with Governor Nasir Idris before briefing police officers deployed across the state.
His visit comes just 48 hours after he joined the nation’s Service Chiefs for a high-level security meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where the surge in kidnappings across Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states was a major focus.
In attendance at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyode; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; and the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi.
The emergency session followed a series of mass abductions that sparked nationwide concern.
On November 17, armed men attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who reportedly tried to protect the students. The attackers abducted several students and operated for a long period without resistance.
A few days later, another large-scale kidnapping occurred at St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Niger State. The gatekeeper was shot and severely injured as gunmen abducted 315 students. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) later confirmed that 50 of the abducted pupils escaped.
