Tension In Benue As NDC Ward Chairman Is Found Dead After Mysterious Attack

The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Fiidi Council Ward, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, Igbu Job Terhemen, has reportedly been killed by unidentified assailants.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Terhemen was allegedly attacked in the early hours of Wednesday after leaving his residence on Tuesday evening to watch a football match in the Kanshio area of Makurdi.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke anonymously, said Terhemen did not return home after the match, prompting relatives and friends to begin searching for him.

He was reportedly discovered unconscious at about 2 a.m. in a bush near his residence, close to the NNPC depot along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road.

The source said Terhemen was unable to speak or communicate when he was found and later died before he could receive medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. However, the source alleged that Terhemen had been tied with ropes and had what appeared to be a needle-like injury on his body, raising suspicions that he may have been injected with an unknown substance.

The source further claimed that the victim’s mobile phone was found with him, suggesting that his attackers may not have taken his personal belongings.

Reacting to the incident, Benue State NDC Chairman, Ohini Ojegbe, condemned the killing and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Terhemen’s death.

Ojegbe described the incident as a serious act of violence and urged authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The NDC also expressed grief over the death of Terhemen, describing him as a committed party member who contributed to the growth of the party in Benue State.

In a condolence statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Agile Bem, the NDC sympathised with Terhemen’s family, the Fiidi community and other members of the party, while praying for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the cause of Terhemen’s death.
