Tension In Eagles Camp: 8 Key Stars Face Suspension Ahead Of Benin Clash For Some Reason’s
At least eight Super Eagles players are walking a disciplinary tightrope and risk missing Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic if they pick up another yellow card in Friday’s clash with Lesotho.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The players in danger include Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Tolu Arokodare, Stanley Nwabali, Ademola Lookman, and Bruno Onyemaechi — all of whom have already been booked in earlier rounds of the qualifiers.
The three-time African champions, now under Eric Chelle, are fighting to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track. They will first take on Lesotho in South Africa on Friday before returning to Uyo for a make-or-break encounter with Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium four days later.
Under FIFA’s rules, any player who receives two yellow cards in separate matches must serve an automatic one-match suspension. This means a booking against Lesotho would rule any of the eight players out of the high-stakes showdown with Benin.
Several other stars, including Jamilu Collins, Sodiq Ismail, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Umar Sadiq, are also one caution away from suspension but were not called up for this round. Osayi-Samuel, notably, is sidelined with injury.
Nigeria currently sit third in Group C, behind leaders Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa, making the upcoming fixtures decisive for their qualification hopes.
