Tension In Israel As Netanyahu Undergoes Prostate Cancer Treatment

In a personal statement shared on his official X account, Netanyahu said the disclosure was deliberately delayed because of ongoing geopolitical tensions, noting he did not want the information used for propaganda amid the conflict involving Israel.

According to him, the condition was detected early and fully treated. Netanyahu said the diagnosis emerged during routine medical monitoring following a procedure he underwent about a year and a half ago for an enlarged prostate. During a recent check-up, doctors reportedly found a small abnormality measuring less than one centimetre, which was later confirmed to be an early-stage malignant tumour that had not spread.

The Israeli leader said specialists presented him with several treatment options, noting that such conditions are relatively common among men his age and can sometimes be managed through observation. However, he opted for immediate treatment, saying he preferred to address any potential risk without delay. He added that the tumour had been completely removed and the matter was now behind him.

Netanyahu’s disclosure has drawn attention to the importance of early detection and routine screening for prostate-related conditions, especially among older men, with health experts often stressing that early diagnosis greatly improves outcomes.

The development also renewed focus on the Prime Minister’s health history. In March 2024, he underwent hernia surgery in Jerusalem and reportedly recovered without complications. His latest statement appears intended to reassure both Israelis and the international community of his fitness to continue leading the country during a sensitive period.
