Tension In Osun As APC Candidate Reveals What Must Happen Before He Accepts 2026 Result

The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Benjamin Adereti, has said the party will accept the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, provided the exercise is conducted freely and fairly.

Adereti made the statement amid growing concerns over political tension and possible violence ahead of the poll, stressing that the APC would not seek victory at the expense of the lives and safety of Osun residents.

Speaking on Beyond the Headlines with Nifemi Oguntoye on TVC News on Wednesday, Adereti reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a peaceful electoral process.

“We accept the results of a free and fair election in Osun,” he said.

No Political Office Worth Any Life

The APC candidate also assured that neither he nor the party would encourage violence or retaliate against attacks during the election.

Adereti, who condemned political violence, maintained that no political position was important enough to justify the loss of a citizen’s life.

“No blood of any Osun citizen is worth any political post in any election,” he stated.

He further pledged that the APC would support the prosecution of any party member found to have participated in acts of violence during the election.

“If any member of my party, the All Progressives Congress, is caught in any of such situations, I can assure you that my party will willingly, voluntarily submit such person for immediate prosecution,” Adereti said.

He expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to maintain peace during the poll and urged them to create an environment where voters could freely exercise their franchise.

“I want to trust the state actors. I want to trust the intelligence. I want to trust that the security forces have what it takes to ensure that we have a peaceful election,” he said.

Adereti also called for a credible election based on the principle of one person, one vote, insisting that the choice of Osun residents should determine who emerges as the next governor.

“We want a peaceful election, one man, one vote. No crisis, no rigging, no cheating of any sort. We want the will of the people to count,” he said.

APC Confident of Victory

Despite his assurance that the party would accept a credible result, Adereti expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in Saturday’s election.

According to him, the party had taken its campaign to various local government areas and wards across the state, while also engaging with residents at markets, traditional institutions and other sectors.

“We have spoken. We have engaged. And we know that the people have made up their mind. We are not losing this election,” he declared.

Adereti, however, reiterated that the APC remained committed to accepting the outcome of a transparent and credible electoral process, stressing that the final result must reflect the genuine wishes of the people of Osun State.
