Tension In PDP! Governors Adeleke, Kefas Absent As National Convention Begins
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, were conspicuously absent on Saturday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opened its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid escalating legal disputes and deepening internal divisions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Despite being entangled in factional conflicts and confronted with two contradictory court rulings, the party proceeded with the convention, ignoring concerns raised by several stakeholders.
The faction aligned with Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum insisted that the event must hold, relying on a ruling from the Oyo State High Court which authorised the convention to go ahead.
This position, however, clashed with a Federal High Court order in Abuja issued a day earlier, restraining both the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting or recognising any convention that excludes former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.
As activities commenced at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Daily Trust reported the attendance of several PDP governors, including:
-
Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa)
-
Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau)
-
Bala Mohammed (Bauchi)
-
Dauda Lawal (Zamfara)
-
Host governor, Seyi Makinde (Oyo)
Their presence signalled the Damagum faction’s resolve to validate the convention.
However, the absence of Adeleke and Kefas has fueled speculation about widening fractures within the opposition party.
