Tension In Zamfara As APC Warns Of Looming Assault On Matawalle’s Convoy

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over an alleged plot by some politicians to hire armed thugs to disrupt the planned visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state.

Speaking during a press briefing in Gusau, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, said the alleged plot was designed to frustrate Matawalle’s homecoming event scheduled for Thursday.

Idris explained that the APC had made comprehensive arrangements to welcome the minister, who is expected to meet with party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and his hometown, Maradun.

“Unfortunately, we have received credible intelligence indicating a deliberate plan to unleash violence and attack the minister’s convoy along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly around Tsafe,” Idris stated.

He urged APC supporters to remain peaceful and avoid carrying weapons throughout the event, warning that any attempt to breach public order would not be tolerated.

“We are advising all our members and supporters to be law-abiding and refrain from carrying any kind of weapon during and after the minister’s visit,” he added.

The party also appealed to security agencies to take proactive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order and to apprehend anyone attempting to instigate violence during the visit.
