Reports indicate that the Archbishop was last seen on Friday when he set out on a journey to Umuchu, a community in the state. However, as of the latest updates, there is no clear information on whether the Archbishop and his driver were abducted or have simply gone missing.

In response to the unsettling situation, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, issued a prayer alert on Saturday, urging the faithful to pray for the Archbishop’s safe return. The message read in part:

“PRAYER ALERT from BISHOP Ndubuisi Obi of Nnewi Diocese”

“Dearly Beloved People of God,

With a heavy heart, we inform you that our esteemed Father in God, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, has been missing since Friday morning. He was on his way to Umuchu with his driver, but unfortunately, neither has arrived nor been heard from. There has been no communication, and neither he nor his driver or vehicle have been located.

We ask for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return. We have informed the authorities, and we trust in God’s divine intervention for a favorable outcome. Please join us in praying, believing that the Lord’s watchful eyes will bring them back safely.

Thank you for your support during this difficult time.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, Toochukwu Ikenga, expressed that he was unaware of the development.

It is worth noting that Anambra State has recently seen an uptick in the activities of unknown gunmen, further raising concerns about the Archbishop’s disappearance.
