Speaking during an investigative public hearing by the Senate Committee on Works in Abuja on Friday, Umahi expressed confidence that the reforms initiated by President Tinubu would significantly strengthen the country’s economy in due time. He emphasized that those leading various sectors are aligned with the reform agenda and are committed to its successful implementation.
On the ongoing controversy surrounding the Lagos-Calabar coastal project, Umahi attributed the backlash to envy and misguided criticism. He stated, “President Tinubu has nurtured this vision of improving Nigeria for the past 25 years, first as a governor, and now, by God’s grace, he has the chance to fulfill it as president. He has no choice but to perform.”
Umahi also pointed out the rarity of a president continuing a predecessor’s major projects, underscoring Tinubu’s commitment to completing vital infrastructure. “Critics doubted his ability to accomplish such ambitious tasks in such a short time, but the progress is undeniable,” Umahi remarked.
The minister further addressed concerns about the diversion of the coastal road project, clarifying that the shift in route from kilometer 16 to kilometer 26 was made to avoid potential disruptions caused by the African communication cable running from the ocean. Umahi reassured that the project is a crucial catalyst for national growth, benefiting every state in the country.
