Tension Rises As Bode George Accuses Police Of Tyranny Over PDP Meeting Disruption
Addressing the press on Monday, the former PDP Deputy National Chairman expressed outrage after he and other key members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) were denied entry into Wadata Plaza—the PDP’s headquarters—by heavily armed police officers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Clearly agitated, George compared the incident to the events that led to Nigeria’s political crisis in the 1960s, cautioning the Federal Government against repeating such historical mistakes.
“This is deeply disturbing,” he said. “This is our property. Was there a court order preventing us from holding our meeting? What exactly is going on here?
“I vividly remember what happened in 1962 in the South West. We cannot allow that chaos to return. What’s the point of democracy if we can’t even gather and discuss?”
George accused the authorities of suppressing democratic engagement and questioned the rationale for deploying security forces to disrupt a peaceful party meeting.
“Nigerians are watching,” he said. “You surround our secretariat with police simply because we want to hold a meeting? Do you want to turn Nigeria into North Korea or Russia? We will not tolerate it. Nigerians will not accept this.”
While assuring that the meeting would still proceed, he declined to disclose the new venue for security reasons.
Earlier in the day, security operatives had taken control of Wadata Plaza, preventing party officials and BoT members from accessing the premises for the critical NEC meeting.
