“Tension Rises as Ejimakor Says Igbos Will Shun Polls Until Kanu Is Freed

Ejimakor made this assertion while explaining the poor reception of the ‘City Boy’ movement, a group supporting the 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu, in Nigeria’s Southeast.
It would be recalled that the movement had appointed businessman and hotelier, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, as its Southeast Coordinator.
Despite this, recent activities of the group in Imo State failed to attract significant support.
Reacting to the situation in a post on , Ejimakor said his findings indicate that the movement struggled largely due to widespread political apathy among young people in the region.
According to him, the continued detention of Kanu has become the central issue influencing political sentiment in the Southeast.
He noted that a large number of Igbo youths are not interested in participating in any elections as long as the IPOB leader remains in custody.
