In a statement released Thursday by NLC’s Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the congress demanded the immediate and unconditional reinstatement of all affected staff. The NLC warned that failure to comply would trigger even larger protests against the company.
The congress also urged all its affiliates in Kaduna State to rally behind the protesting workers in a show of solidarity.
Titled “Come Off Your High Horse,” the statement slammed KEDC’s actions as a breach of due process and redundancy regulations.
“We applaud the resilience of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company’s workers, who have maintained a peaceful protest despite ongoing provocations from KEDC management,” the statement said.
Describing the protests as a “heroic stand against illegality and injustice,” the NLC urged KEDC’s management to drop its inflexible approach and engage in constructive dialogue. The union emphasized that reinstating the sacked workers would promote industrial harmony and ensure the restoration of essential services.
The NLC further warned that more severe actions would follow if KEDC failed to reverse its decision.
“As an initial step, we are calling on all our affiliates in Kaduna State to join the protest in solidarity,” the statement concluded.
