Seyi, the 39-year-old son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is being touted by several youth groups and Nigerian communities abroad as a leading contender to govern the state.

According to Naija News, Seyi has received backing from the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, The Future Platform, and diaspora-based Nigerian associations—sparking speculation that a campaign may be quietly gaining momentum despite no formal declaration from him.

If elected, Seyi Tinubu would make history as the youngest governor in Lagos since its creation in 1967, surpassing Babatunde Fashola, who took office at age 43 in 2007. But the growing buzz around his possible candidacy has triggered unease within party ranks.

The GAC, a powerful body formed in 1999 by then-Governor Tinubu and currently chaired by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, is said to be divided over the idea. The group, made up of about 30 prominent politicians—including ex-governors, former deputies, lawmakers, and elder statesmen—has historically played a key role in selecting Lagos leaders. It was instrumental in the emergence of former governors Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode, and current Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Now, the prospect of Seyi stepping into that role has reignited debates about political succession, nepotism, and the balance between legacy and meritocracy. Some party insiders fear his lack of substantial political experience could hurt the APC’s chances in a state as complex and politically vibrant as Lagos.
