Speaking during a courtesy visit by CP Adepoju, the 47th Commissioner of Police for the state, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara emphasized the need for the police to prioritize the welfare, peace, and stability of the state.

The governor stated, “You are not new to Rivers State, having served here before, particularly in Operations. Your familiarity with the state makes it even more important to maintain a focus on law and order. Work closely with the government and other security agencies to protect lives and property.”

He added, “Remain apolitical, as you rightly pledged in your address. Avoid nocturnal meetings in private homes that might compromise your duty to Rivers people. In the morning, don’t declare war on the citizens you are meant to protect. That’s my key advice to you.”

Governor Fubara tasked the new CP with devising a comprehensive strategy to address the issues of cultism among youths and kidnappings in boundary areas. He assured Adepoju of the government’s continued support for security agencies, while emphasizing that the police have the primary responsibility to tackle these challenges.

“Cultism is affecting our schools—students are growing into monsters, leading to more significant issues like kidnapping. While we may not completely eradicate it, we must find ways to reduce it. This is a critical assignment I am entrusting to you,” Fubara concluded.
