Tensions Rise As Labour Party’s Stand On Peter Obi’s Ticket Divides Opinions For 2027!

Proponents of change argue that only a coalition of major opposition parties can effectively unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recent reports suggested that Peter Obi of the LP, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were negotiating a potential alliance for 2027. These reports included an alleged deal where Kwankwaso and Atiku would each serve as president for four years, followed by an eight-year term for Obi.
However, both Kwankwaso and Obi have dismissed these rumors. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso denied any such agreement, emphasizing that past election events should teach leaders not to pre-select candidates. Obi also confirmed in a press conference in Abuja that no merger talks were taking place, but he called for opposition unity against the APC-led government.
PDP Chieftain Calls for Opposition Unity
Mathias Adache, a PDP chieftain from Benue South, echoed the need for unity among opposition parties. Speaking to DAILY POST, Adache warned that a divided opposition would not be able to defeat Tinubu in 2027, citing the lack of unity as a major factor in the 2023 loss.
Adache urged opposition leaders to prioritize national interest over personal ambitions, stating, “There’s no way the PDP or Labour Party can defeat Tinubu in 2027 if they don’t come together. They tried to go it alone in 2023, and it didn’t work. What magic do they expect in 2027? There is power in unity; unless we unite against our common enemies, we may never escape this mess.”
