Despite denials by the Kano government and State House of Assembly regarding any intentions to abolish the newly created emirates and depose the first-class Emirs, fears among the state’s residents intensified after the picture of the deposed Emir’s portrait surfaced on social media.

In response to the situation, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, released a statement on Monday, explaining that the placement of Sanusi’s portrait in the coronation hall was part of an ongoing renovation and facelift project for the hall.

The statement clarified that the hall was originally built for Sanusi’s presentation of the staff of office after he became the Emir in 2014 during the administration of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
