In an interview with Trust Radio, Dalung, who was a part of Buhari’s administration, expressed his belief that Buhari failed to deliver on the pledges made to Nigerians during his 2015 campaign.
As a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dalung asserted his responsibility to speak candidly, emphasizing that he is not a hypocrite.
He stated, “We failed to meet our expectations, and I am not being hypocritical because, as a significant stakeholder who campaigned vigorously in 2015 and traversed every part of the north, of all the promises we made, we fulfilled none of them.”
Dalung highlighted the political covenant made with Nigerians during the campaign, which included addressing security issues, reviving the economy, and significantly reducing corruption. He acknowledged that upon reflection and evaluation of the current situation, the administration had “failed woefully.”
Dalung also described President Buhari as an honest leader who believed in the integrity of those around him. However, he believed that the President’s trust in certain individuals had tarnished his reputation.
According to Dalung, the Buhari administration did experience some modest progress between 2015 and 2019, but the level of insecurity was not as severe as it is at present.
