“The North Will Rise Again”: Deputy Senate President Rallies Leaders for Security Revival.
The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has expressed confidence that the persistent security challenges confronting Northern Nigeria can be decisively addressed through unity, strategic action, and the effective use of available resources. Barau commended the ACF on its Silver Jubilee, noting that the forum has remained a strong unifying platform and an advocate for sustainable solutions to issues affecting the North while contributing meaningfully to national development. Delivering remarks on behalf of the Senate President and the entire Senate, he paid tribute to the founding fathers of the ACF—particularly those who have passed on—describing their vision and sacrifices as instrumental to building a resilient region.
He referenced an earlier trend analysis presented at the event, emphasizing that although such reports highlight prevailing concerns, they do not define the North’s longstanding culture of resilience nor its collective determination to confront difficult realities. According to him, while insecurity remains a serious threat, similar challenges are prevalent across West Africa, and the North has the capacity to overcome them through collaboration, purposeful leadership, and improved security coordination.
Barau highlighted that Northern leaders at the federal level, including presiding officers of the National Assembly, are committed to working closely with state and local institutions to tackle the root causes of insecurity. He encouraged state governments and regional institutions to take advantage of increased revenues and engage the National Assembly in securing the funds required to strengthen security operations. He added that whenever local capacity is insufficient, the President is prepared to intervene.
Calling on the ACF to deepen dialogue among leaders, stakeholders, and communities, the Deputy Senate President maintained that inclusive engagement and coordinated action remain central to crafting lasting solutions and safeguarding lives. He concluded with an assurance that with unity, strong political will, and responsible use of resources, Northern Nigeria can surmount its challenges and reclaim its position as a stable, productive, and influential part of the country.
