This Cannot Be Tolerated – Anambra Govt To Shut Down 2,000 Unapproved Schools

Ahead of the resumption of primary and secondary schools on September 17, the Anambra State government has issued a stern warning to around 2,000 schools operating without proper accreditation. The government has pledged to shut down any institution that fails to obtain the necessary approvals.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, disclosed that a recent evaluation identified these schools as operating illegally across the state’s 21 local government areas.

Nwosu explained that schools lacking accreditation are not meeting the standards set by the Ministry of Education, which could jeopardize the quality of education for students.

“All children in Anambra, no matter where they are, deserve access to quality learning environments, qualified teachers, and a proper curriculum,” Nwosu emphasized.

He continued, “It is unacceptable that about 2,000 unaccredited or unapproved schools are operating across the state. Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a distinguished academic, has made quality education a top priority. Schools running without accreditation are failing to meet the standards set by the Ministry of Education.”

The government has instructed the affected schools to immediately seek accreditation from the Anambra State Ministry of Education. Schools must comply before the start of the term or face closure and additional penalties.

Additionally, Nwosu mentioned that the list of accredited schools would be distributed to Local Government Education Departments through Transition Committee Chairmen to ensure easy access for parents and stakeholders.
