This Girl Must Not Be Bullied — Feminist Breaks Silence, Challenges OPay And Police

A feminist activist has criticised OPay and the Nigeria Police Force over the reported arrest of 27-year-old Hafsat Abubakar in connection with the circulation of a fake notice claiming that the fintech company was shutting down.

The activist, identified on X as @AbujaxQueen, said she would not remain silent while Abubakar was allegedly being intimidated over the social media post.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the development followed reports that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) arrested Abubakar after investigating the circulation of the fabricated notice about OPay’s alleged shutdown.

Reacting to the arrest, the feminist expressed concern over the continued detention of the woman, particularly after she reportedly deleted the post and issued an apology to OPay.

“I will NOT stand by and watch this girl @haifah_er_abba get bullied by the police and OPay. She deleted the post and apologized. Why is she still being arrested?” she wrote on X.

The activist also disclosed that she had directed her legal team to examine the circumstances surrounding Abubakar’s arrest and determine whether her rights were being violated.

“I’m instructing my team of lawyers to look into this matter. If her rights are being violated, we will speak up,” she added, stressing that women deserve justice rather than intimidation.

Abubakar had earlier apologised to OPay over the post in which she claimed that the fintech company would shut down indefinitely from September 1, 2026. In her apology, she acknowledged that the information was false and misleading and said she had deleted the publication.

She also clarified that OPay’s operations remained normal and that there was no planned shutdown of the company.

The apology emerged after the police identified Abubakar as the alleged operator of the X account linked to the circulation of the false notice.

The controversy has since generated reactions online, with the feminist activist calling for proper scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the arrest while the authorities continue to address the alleged dissemination of false information.
